Understanding Dreams & Visions

 

 

 

Sigmund Freud once called dreams the “royal road to..... the unconscious.”
and I think that statement will remain true in psychology forever. Well as a student of psychologist in my college few years back, I have read about Freud’s work. Nope, I won’t even try to summarize Freud’s work here J who am I right. HAH

 

Of course, there are other ideas about dreams besides Freudian theories.

 

Dreams can be baffling and mysterious. Throughout history dreams have been associated with sacred revelation and prophecy. Just so you know, it was a dream that revealed to a scientist the molecular structure of carbon atoms in the benzene ring. Well all these mystery can leave us wondering what a particular dream means to the dreamer. Yet, in spite of modern science, dreams still remain mysterious.

 

It’s been some time since this title ‘’dreams and visions’’ in mind, so I’ve decided to blog about it. Been reading a lot and hearing a lot about it, but I am just gonna write what make sense to me alright. Before that, I have to admit that I am a heavy dreamer. 90% of my nap/sleep, I had a dream. Sometime I wonder what is my sub-conscious me trying to say about my internal repressed feelings towards the situations in my life. Of course many times I find it difficult to remember every dream I experience, recalling just a few poignant dreams.

My mom used to and still believe that dreams have certain fixed meanings. For example, dream about oranges means good health and so on. In case you didn’t know, you can even purchase a dictionaries of dream interpretation. ( I used to have one with me too. HAHAHA)

 

“But I don’t dream” you might say.

Well, that’s not exactly true. Scientific studies have shown that we go through several cycles of light to very deep sleep each night. One phase of each cycle is called Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. In fact, even animals experience REM sleep, so yea animals do dream but we won’t able to know nature of their dream because we can’t understand their language!!!? ;3

Nightmares, those dreams where you feel scared and helpless. Have you ever experience of waking up at night because you feel an odd sort of external presence around you, a mysterious eerie presence that feels like it is smothering you, and all the while you cant move or protect yourself because your body feels completely paralyzed?

This can be called sleep paralysis. It is a protective function of the brain which prevents the body from thrashing during REM sleep.

Medieval folklore attributed this experience to incubus, a demon said to lie on you.

 

SWEET DREAMS AND BAD DREAMS.

( I will talk about dreams and visions from biblical way.)

 

1. What if God gave you the answer to the question you have been asking last night?

 

2. Does God speak through dreams? Why would He use such a mysterious form of communication?

 

3. What does that mean to you?

 

4. Are all dreams from God?

 

5. Are there supernatural encounters that happen in dreams?

 

 

It’s important to understand that not all dreams are God-given. It may be that you ate something weird, or that your mind just kept going after a busy day. Dreams can also be from Satan. The enemy of our souls isn’t ignorant of the power of visions.

 

People come in church with saying the sinner prayers, thinking Christianity is a bed of roses where our prayer will be answer and problems will be solves. Hey, that can be true just the matter how you see things. I have been save for 3 years now, I always think I have so much to learn and do from the bible. There are up’s and down’s you see. The point here is that, even as Christian, I do have my day I have to face the devil.

 

“Dreams are the perfect way to hear from God. When you are dreaming, you are quiet, so you can’t ignore Him. Plus, you are not easily distracted. You’re basically all ears for about 7 hours every night.”

 

Acts 2:17 & Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams.

 

Satan is a joy robber. His unexpected attacks can chew away your joy. He want you to get up every morning and hate your life. It can happen to any of us. Depression is always looming over us, but you don’t have to take it. God wants you to be happy, child living in His presence. In the other hand, Satan wants to steal your peace.

 

How to Handle Vivid Dreams I abstract from google.

 

1. Pray. Before you do anything else, pray that God exposes the source of a dream and what He wants to teach you through it. I still remember there are night I feel tormented and fear, eventually I had similar nightmare for one whole weeks plus. so brother Gerard used to ask me to pray before I sleep or sometimes he will call me up to pray for me over the phone. Such a good buddy isn't him. if you need someone to pray for you, Gerard maybe? JK. 

 

2. Listen to God. Take a moment and sit quietly before the Lord so that you may hear His perspective. Once you feel His peace, then you can rest assured that His Spirit was the source. Hearing from the Lord can save you as it did the three wise men. They were warned in a dream to return home another way, avoiding King Herod, in turn saving the newborn Jesus (Matthew 2). How is that.

 

3. Write it down. Grab a notebook and write down what you remember. If after praying you feel that the dream isn’t of the Lord, then forget about it. But if you think God is in it, journal what you feel He is speaking to you. I tried doing this but not anymore. nevertheless, you can try :)

 

4. Seek godly counsel. Sharing dreams is biblical. Pharaoh sought wise counsel from Joseph and a generation was saved from starvation (Genesis 41). Just be wise about with whom you share your visions. Be especially cautious of friends who consult books to interpret dreams (I John 4:1). -google source

 

5. Let it be. The Lord will bring His dreams to your remembrance. Most of my dreams are extremely vivid; but the ones I pay closest attention to are the ones I remember years after having them. Occasionally, while sitting in God’s presence, He will recall a dream to my mind to reinforce a lesson He is teaching me. The danger comes when the dream preoccupies our thoughts instead of the One who gives us these supernatural visions.

 

 

The prophecy in Joel 2 reveals that God will speak through dreams. It’s assumed that we would know it’s Him speaking, but we don’t. This course will equip you to not only hear Him speak this way, but also understand what He is saying. You will learn to discover the dream vocabulary God uses and how to receive and remember your dreams. You will learn the difference between a Biblical, God-inspired interpretive method and the popular secular methods that shroud the dream instead of revealing it.
